Gain fluency in English and qualify yourself for the career of your dreams whether it be for entrance into university or a specific job. In the global and increasingly competitive society that we live, having fluency in English is now a must. Enrolling in an English course at Coolum Christian International College will help you achieve this and more.
At Coolum Christian International College, our English and Au-Pair program will not only improve your English language level and your confidence with speaking English, but you will experience another culture too, and all your food and accommodation and College tuition fees are paid for.
Australia is a country with lots of sunshine, great beaches, outdoor activities, rainforests and national parks. An Au-Pair stay with an Australian family provides you with the opportunity to learn and practice English, experience different culture and customs, and be part of an Australian family. An Au-Pair stay can be either on a short term basis for example, during school holidays. However, most families will require a minimum stay. Placement in Australia is free. There is a minimum of 12 weeks enrolment.
What is English + Au-Pair?
The word Au-Pair is a French word which means equal to. The “host family” invites the Au-Pair into their house to share all the facilities of the house and will have their own bedroom. They provide homestay and from 10-15 hours English tuition at Coolum Christian International College. In exchange for full board, private room and all meals, the Au-Pair will assist the family with child minding and home duties for approximately 15 hours. In addition, you will have to work extra hours to cover your English tuition.
PROGRAM
A full-time student would normally attend Coolum Christian International College during the day, 10am-2pm for 5 days per week, and help the family in the afternoons with after school care, school pick-up, bath-time and cooking. Times and programs for English study are flexible though, so you will need to work in with your host family’s requirements. Some families may require you to study in the evenings instead of during the day.
TYPE OF HELP YOU WOULD PROVIDE
As a Au-pair your primary role would be to assist families with child care related duties. Typically this involves caring for and entertaining the children. This could include such tasks as giving milk bottles or making school lunches, taking the children to and from school, planned activities or outside play such as parks, as well as supporting meal and bath time routines in the morning and evening. You can also expect to assist with light housework such as washing and tidying, particularly in the children’s rooms and play areas. A detailed duties list will be discussed and agreed upon with your host family before you begin work.
ACCOMMODATION
Homestay is one of the best ways to improve your English. It is a great way to practice English while getting insight into the Australian way of life, culture and cuisine.
You can be assured of your safety, because all host families will be screened with Police checks before accepting them into the program.
You will be provided with your own private bedroom but the bathroom may need to be shared with the children. Amenities such as TV and audio in your own room are sometimes provided but this differs from family to family. You would normally share all other areas of the house with the family. You will be provided with all meals as well as electricity, gas and local phone calls. Personal, long distance or mobile phone calls would be your own responsibility.
